Selene

By: Killerqueen

The sky was a blurry pool of red colors, giving clouds their heavy grey cold. A typical dusk. The winds were raging through the woods, so did one particular steamer. One hundred eleven people were on that train, thinking that they are safe. What a mistake!

The noise in the carriages was unbearable. Lawyers quarreling, mothers yelling at their children, fathers calming the mothers, four nicely dressed gentlemen playing cards... It was all too much for Selene. She distinguished herself from the others by two things – first, her immense beauty, and second, she was blind. So much people were giving her a headache. She tried to concentrate her mind, imagining that she is alone and that there is complete silence. Before she knew she fell asleep.

The dream was all about flowers in spring. Selene found herself in between hundreds of daffodils, smiling happily and enjoying the scents. Then, the ground moved violently with a loud crushing sound. Suddenly she was surrounded by darkness, falling down the endless abyss. Numbers of scary faces started to show before her, faces of unknown people. One man with severely burned skin screaming for help, the other with impaled eyes, the third one with open skull and face covered with blood... They were all forming a circle around Selene, making her join them in their screaming. She looked at her hands with no special reason. Blood everywhere. She realized after a few seconds that she dug a hole in her stomach, tearing her intestines apart, while she was screaming.

    "Disorder! Violence! Hatred!"

    "Disorder! Violence! Hatred!"

"For she, who is the Bringer of Terror, will be banished into oblivion of infinity, never to live again!"

    "Disorder! Violence! Hatred!"

"Disorder! Violence! Hatred!" Those were the voices of many.

Selene tried to get away from everything, she tried to wake up, but her subconsciousness didn’t let her go. She was still falling into infinity followed by the voices of the dead. But no! The end of abyss started showing itself. It was all too clear that she is finally done with her life. Except, this is a dream. Or perhaps it’s not? It seemed so real. And as her mind began to fade, Selene reached the ground with an unearthly scream...

...which made her wake up covered in sweat. I’m glad that was only a dream, she thought. But something was strange. It was too silent. if not for the sound of steam engine. “Where is everybody? What had happened to my mother?” A cold shiver passed her spine. That was fear speaking. She started to tremble out of sudden. “What have I done wrong? It was only a dream!” She took her cane and tried to reach into the second carriage. Noone was there. Just wind whistling through a half-opened window. The next one. No change. But she heard a wickedly twisted sound, impossible to describe, from the other sound. Selene followed it until she entered the following carriage. And then, everything stopped, or maybe that was some kind of illusion? She couldn’t hear any sound apart from her very hectic heartbeats and extremely erratic breathing. There was it, that weird sound again, becoming louder and louder and louder... she shut her ears, but it didn’t help... louder and louder and louder... She felt so confused, she was desperate, and yet she couldn’t connect this with her dream. All until someone appeared out of nowhere. Selene wasn’t able to see it, but the noise was gone, so that was her conclusion. But then she heard the voice from her dream.

“The Bringer of Terror should meet her ultimate fate!!!” And that someone started reaching after her. She tried to run, but to no avail. The stranger took hold of her, and he stabbed her in the throat. She felt her own blood gushing out and flowing down her chest. She collapsed to the ground, spitting blood out of her mouth instead of last words.

“May you find peace in Eternity, my child.” The voice spoken, and the stranger disappeared.
