The Actual Thing
By: Azriel

FADE IN

EXT. NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA 1970’S

Camera starts rolling and you can see the entrance of the house, a green door which has been barred to allow no entry. Pieces of a once-shown often sign lie broken upon the floor and the only viewable part that reads is the one that says “Inn”. White curtains sprinkled with flowers cover the window closing the inside from curious eyes.

INT. HOUSE. DAY.

The camera is walked through the door. Entering the house, the wood floors line the floors, broken apart at several places the ground showing through, and an enormous stair case leading to the top. The camera follows the stair case showing an empty, desolated room, the bedsheets torn away, the empty pieces floating in the death air.

Broken toys in pieces are scattered to and fro. Books lie without covers and the room is only lit by a single light.

NARRATOR : (V.O.)
(In granny like voice from old South)
“You shouldn’t be in there. The spirits won’t like that you are in their space. This house is old. Really old. Being here longer than you and me put together, I’d say.”

A howling wind shifts through the room as the camera is led back outside.

NARRATOR: (V.O.)
Been hiding in the Savannahs servin’ as a station during the U.S battle of color. Louisiana became the place to be and this became a hotel run by a noble family who still owns the house to this day. The Iscariots, I say. Much murder and death and secrets even they don’t know about today.

EXT. HOUSE. DAY.

The camera shifts out and the moat is shown around the house, a bridge connected the separated land the grass growing wild and crazy. Silence echo as creepy music begins to play no one there.

NARRATOR: (V.O.)
And now our tale begins.

CUT TO:

TITLE SCREEN IS SHOWN

“ One Last Choice, One Last Action.”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK 1965.

EXT CEMETERY. DAY

Rain pours gently onto the grass the sky above dark and gloomy. There are few surrounding the grave of the solider. Proof of this of being in his wife’s arm, her tears running down her cheeks coloring her face black. The camera closes in on this.

Azriel Iscariot, WIFE OF DANTE ISCARIOT, sits under the canopy on the lawn chair grieving badly at the mysterious death of her husband. She wears a dress without sleeves, the left part of a red heart surrounded by a single rose with DANtE’s name shown on her shoulder. Sitting next to her is Tabbi Iscariot, DAUGHTER TO DANTE AND AZRIEL WHO IS 6 YEARS OLD wearing black from head to toe, a silver necklace with a white cross around her neck.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(In a mad voice under her breath so no one can hear)
Why is he dead. He was done with the war but now he is gone and he isn’t coming back. Someone killed him, I know it. He stopped off somewhere, I don’t know but he called telling me he was within in hours of being back home. No one is telling me nothing.

The empty, unsympathetic voice of a preacher cuts into the sound cutting into her thoughts, the funeral ceremony coming to a close.

PREACHER
(in solemn voice)
Dante Iscariot was a man of honorable deeds leaving to serve for his country when she asked for him. He managed to get home back onto this land but he never appeared back disappearing into the heavens. The angels took him as he left his wife and child behind. May he find peace there and may they find comfort here. Amen.

The casket is lowered, empty and without a body a single white rose dropped upon it.

EXT. CEMETERY. LATER.

The funeral has ended and all that is left is Tabbi and Azriel who hold hands standing next to the grave. The priest listens in.

TABBI ISCARIOT
Mommy, where’s Daddy going? Is he coming back soon?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(looks down and picks Tabbi up embracing her and then looks at her)
No. As the preacher said, he’s gone to be with the angels. They get to take care of him now.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(cries as she mutters)
But who gets to take care of us? I miss him, Mommy.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(hugs her close)
We’ll be fine; God will be our friend like the good preacher said. We'll make it. Don’t we always?

The PREACHER smiles hearing this as he turns to them.

PREACHER
(in a kind voice unlike the one used before)
You both will. God bless you and let your faith take your hand and always guide you. And don’t worry Tabitha. You and your mom will both be fine.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(shows an angry expression)
Call me Tabbi, please. My dad gave it to me and this is how we’ll remember him.

PREACHER
(Smiling sadly)
That is nice. Isn’t that nice, Azriel?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(tears up)
True true. That is what we’ll call you from now on. We best be going now. I hope I do fine some peace in these crazy times.

Azriel and Tabbi remain at the grave dropping a red rose upon Dante’s grave moving silently to the edge of the cemetery.

EXT. CEMETERY. LATER.

Black car approaches end of sidewalk where Azriel and Tabbi have reached stopping in front of them the door opening and someone stepping out in a suit.

BUTLER
(in a cruel sounding voice)
Are you the daughter of Marie Dark?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(doesn’t enjoy hearing the voice of her mother so responds in an annoyed voice)
Yes and what if I am. What does it do for you?

BUTLER
And the girl? She’s Tabitha Iscariot, right?

TABBI ISCARIOT
(smiles coldly since she has picked up her mother’s reaction)
I am but who wants to know. I don’t even know this “Marie”.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles sadly)
She’s right.

(Turns towards to Tabbi)
Marie Dark is your grandmother or my mother and only visited us when you were the young age. I haven’t heard from her since.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(says in a sad voice)
She exists? I thought you said she died.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(says in an angry voice)
After I married your dad, she doesn’t want anything to do with me because she said he was going to be the downfall of us. I left her feeling if she didn’t respect him than.

(turns to the Butler) What do you want with us and since you been listening to our conversation you know why I’m not willing to listen to her especially on this day.

BUTLER
(in a rather kind, considerate voice)
I actually agree with you and I told to wait at least a week but she said was impatient for your answer. Here’s the telegram that she sends. Just think about it. She’s only given you three days. She’s in a rush to get you to come to wherever it says on the telegram. Here.

Butler hands the TELEGRAM to the Azriel. Azriel takes it opening it and reads it out loud.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiling mysteriously)
We all hate her here so I don’t mind if you here it and Tabbi’s young enough that she’ll understand it. It is happening to her if we decide so.

Tabbi and Butler look at Azriel surprised at the choice but agree both anxious with curiosity.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(anxiously)
Go ahead, mom. (Turns to the Butler) YOU agree right?

BUTLER
(with sincerity)
I do. Plus I’m curious to know. After all I do want to know everything that goes around the house I serve.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles at their response)
So it is decided.

The telegram comes in an envelope and another letter rests inside as well and Azriel uses her finger nail to open it shivering slightly. Azriel doesn’t want to know what it is in it but opens it, her finger shaking. It finally opens the envelope left in pieces.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT’D)
(with a nervous voice)
It reads, um. Dear Azriel. I know you were not expecting a letter from me since you think I have abandoned you. I have but I need your help.
(Tears up looking at the Butler and Tabbi)
...I have to finish reading it now...damn women. Always knew how to get my attention.
(Looks down at telegram)
Anyway, child. I’m old and don’t want to run the house that has been in our family for ages. The patience is leaving me. You know the one. Remember when you were a child. Today we still use it as a hotel for the people who come choosing at will who to let in. That is key and you are the only one I trust and I know since that husband of yours is dead you’ve got just a unreasonable place to live in. I’m giving you a chance to be a better parent for Tabitha. That was her name right. Think about it. I give you three days. If not, well, good luck.

Closing the letter up, she puts it in her purse saying nothing.

EXT. FUNERAL. SUN SHINES IN MID-DAY.

Tabbi is walking in a slow, uneasy walk back to her father’s grave because of the silence, silent tear falling. Bending down, she picks something up.

Tears shown as she carries a flower in her hand that she has picked up. She lies on the top of the grave holding the necklace tight in her hand, it being a gift from her father and cries softly.

Two adults talking. Azriel has followed Tabbi’s action with her eyes the whole time and tears up.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(Looks towards the Butler)
Tell her that I’ll think about it. She has got a point and it will give me good money but I don’t know if I should trust her.

BUTLER
(Smiles sadly)
I finally understand your pain m’am. Sorry of how I treated you at he beginning. Should never have.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(Smiles back as she tears up again)
What is your name anyway? I’ve been so angry at her and you that I didn’t even consider that you didn’t know anything. Only what that bitch told you that is and that could be all lies.

BUTLER
(Takes out his card with his information on it)
Here. Take this if you ever need any help. I’ll help you and her. I don’t know who is right but if I can be any aid just ask okay?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Okay. That makes sense but your name?

BUTLER
(smiles)
It’s Liam given to me by my mother who actually did care for me with the last name of Iscariot.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(shocked and tears up)
That was the last name of my husband whose name was Dante. Did your family know him by chance? I knew little about them.

LIAM
(shocked as well)
He was my step-brother. Makes me wonder if that is the reason I’m hurried making me even more suspicious of your mother but what ever. Don’t tell Tabbi though. She has already thrown to much at her yet at least I know the wife of my step-brother.
We weren’t close but every time we talked by letter when he was at that war he talked about you. He missed.

Hearing this, Azriel tears up and Liam embraces her.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(Tears up and smiles the tears falling down her cheeks)
Sorry that I keep on doing this...I just can’t handle everything all at once. This was the love of my life and he is dead. At least I have you to trust in.

Liam reaches into his pocket and takes out his handkerchief, the color of white and blue spots. Taking it in his hand, he lifts his hand to Azriel’s wet cheek and dries it.

LIAM
(smiles sadly)
It is alright. You have every reason to cry. His death comes as a surprise and her telegram doesn’t help at all also so don’t worry.
Rest for today. I’m going to drive you home. She said to leave you because of the issue and it seriousness but fuck that. You need all the help for today. Come now.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles thankfully and for the bit is at peace)
Thanks. Especially for not listening to her and helping.
(leans unto Liam)
Thanks for the peace, family. I actually have at least one person.

LIAM
(smiles)
As do I. Call Tabitha or Tabbi. I like both because they have special meaning to her for you, right.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles sadly)
Yeah but that’s a long story.

EXT: FUNERAL SCENE. AFTERNOON.

Tabbi has fallen asleep on her father’s grave, the mud hidden upon her black dress. The flower lies at the base of the tombstone, it reading “Beloved husband. Loving Father. Missed Forever and Taken by Angels”.

Azriel and Liam walk up to the grave site standing there for a moment in silence looking down at Tabitha, smiling sadly, and looking at each other. Azriel bends down to nudge Tabbi.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(In a tired voice)
Tabbi. Tabbi, sweety. Wake up. It is time to let the angels have their peace for tonight. We have to go home and get rest there.

Tabbi’s red eyes open as she looks at her mom and the butler, whose name she still doesn’t now. She is silent and grabs onto her mother’s hand who picks her up.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
Sleep on me if you want, okay. The nice butler is going to take us home, okay.

Tabbi nods and fall immediately to sleep on her mother’s children.

LIAM
(Smiling at the two)
Come.

All three walk to the black limo the butler arrived in and enter and the car drives away.

EXT: FRONT OF APARTMENT. NIGHT.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(wakes up from the nap inside the car)
This is me. Marie probably told you.

LIAM
(smiles)
She did. She knows too much. Need any more help?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles)
No thanks. You have done enough for today and in you, I got a friend and a new member of this crazy family.

LIAM
True for both of us. Call if you need anything.

INT: APARTMENT. NIGHT.

Azriel sits upon the couch, the telegram and letter, containing little details on running the hotel, instructions scribbled on it, in her hand and a faraway look upon her face.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(in a quiet voice to herself)
I don’t know what to do. The old lady is right

Azriel looks around. The place has hardwood floors and no carpeting with only couch. Although nicely decorated, pieces are falling apart.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
This house isn’t fit to raise Tabbi and I should take her somewhere away from all these memories, these sad memories.

Tabbi walks out of her room to her mother who is sitting on the couch.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(with a surprised look)
Mom? You’re up still...you said you were going to sleep, you promised.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
I know that. I can’t though. Too many thoughts.

TABBI ISCARIOT
About dad?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Yes. Also about what Marie said. What do you think we should do?

TABBI ISCARIOT
(looking around she pauses)
I think we should go. This place is full of dad. I couldn’t sleep because I thought he was going to come in to tuck me in and give me a kiss. I couldn’t fall asleep.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
That is why I couldn’t sleep either. Let’s go. He would of wanted to take a chance even though he himself didn’t like her. Tonight, sleep her next to me on the couch. We’ll keep each other company. Night sweetie.

Tabbi is already sleep because of the her mom’s arms wrapped around her, her heartbeat putting to her sleep.

EXT. HOUSE. EARLY MORNING.

Black car waits outside as Azriel and Tabbi step out. The door opens and the door opens, Liam walking up to the door to take the 2 small suitcases that they have. All three had down the stairs.

LIAM
(in a grim-like voice)
Are you ready to go and make the trip to Louisiana?

Azriel and Tabbi look at Liam before silent tears fall down their cheeks. For a moment, they stand there and then turn to the apartment and wave. Turning around, they face Liam.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(in a semi-cheerful voice)
I’m ready. It is for the best and I get to go somewhere new. Daddy would thought the idea as cool and he wants us safe.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiles as she hears Tabbi speak.)
Yes. Let’s go.

The two head down with Liam who opens the door for them. They get in and face the house, Tabbi’s hand placed on the window as the car slowly drives away.

EXT. SHREVEPORT REGIONAL AIRPORT SHREVEPORT REGIONAL AIRPORT. NOON.

Tabbi, Azriel, and Liam have arrived at the Shreveport Regional, a rather small airport taking only a fair few flights. Theirs arrived on time unlike many of the others. Looking to his left, Liam spots a black car and motions for Azriel and Tabbi to follow him for that is their ride. On top of the black car, a sign reads, “Soothsaying Inn”

All three enter the car and it drives off.

EXT. HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

The three arrive to the edge of the bridge a white house in view; The name “Soothsaying Inn” at the top in big, blue letters. From where they stand, they can see it decrepitness, a haunted feeling coming from it. The three exit the car and it drives away as they walk across the bridge. Azriel looks back at the house, the green door with the curtains still down. A thin layer of leaves lies upon the front deck, the stairs covered with dirt. Walking around the deck, an elderly woman walks down the three stairs and approaches the three, a blue purse with her, an expression of giving up upon her face.

MARIE DARK
(with a forced smile on her face)
Welcome to the Soothsaying Inn. Azriel, it has been a long time since I have seen you but now I can now that Dante is dead. Rest his soul, right?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(with the same forced smile and points to Tabbi)
Hello. This is Tabitha, but she prefers the name Tabbi. Why are you here?

MARIE DARK
(looks down and see Tabbi)
She looks way too much like her dead father. Dante, wasn’t it? I’m only here to give you the keys, Azriel. And Tabitha, you really do look like him and you grew up nicely.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(shocked)
Thanks. Mom raised me more than Daddy if you wanted to know and thanks for saying that I look like Dad. He was handsome and nice to us.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(shocked)
His name was Dante. But you hated him though? She is pretty, I know and I like being me. Leaving already, as usual. You have just met Tabbi.

MARIE DARK
(with a tired voice)
I want my peace in this world. A lot has happened and you ran off to get married with him and he was an idiot but whatever. I’m going to Paris to visit it and maybe live there, once more. Here.

MARIE DARK reaches into the blue purse that she has and takes out a key that is tied to a string to form a necklace. Placing it around Tabbi’s necklace, she breathes a sigh of relief.

MARIE DARK (CONT'D)
Never take it off. It will keep you safe and it will also never get lost as well. Promise?

TABBI ISCARIOT
Sure.

Marie Dark smiles to the three and realizes that the butler, Liam, is there as well.

MARIE DARK
(to the Liam)
You have done well. You can stay or come with me if you want. I’d be happy if you come though since I still need your help

LIAM
(smiling)
I will come with as promised but if they need help, I will return to them.

Liam turns to Azriel, hugging her, and Tabbi.

LIAM (CONT'D)
Once we get to wherever we are going, I will write you a letter. If you need any help, just write back and I will come as soon as possible. You will be fine, I hope.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Thanks for everything.

Azriel turns to Marie and the two stare at each other. Looking at Marie, Azriel finally notices the wrinkles on her mother’s face and how tired she is and looking towards the house and back, she smiles.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
(to Marie Dark)
I hope you have a safe trip and thanks for this chance.

MARIE DARK
(sighing)
No. Thank-you for taking it and for once, listening to me. I am disappearing now. Hope to maybe never see you again. Who knows.

Turning, Marie Dark heads towards the bridge with pure grace only glancing to look at the three once. Behind her, Liam walks backwards waving towards Azriel and Tabbi, a sad look upon his face. Azriel’s face is shown with a tear running down her face holding Tabbi’s hand. Azriel and Tabbi and walk up the steps of the house and Azriel places a hand on the golden handle of the green door.

INT. FRONT HALL IN HOUSE. EVENING.

The door is pushed open and for the first time, Azriel and Tabbi get to see the house.

Unlike from before, full wooden floors are complete under the furniture that neatly decorates the house. A feeling of dread fills up Azriel, no sound being unable to heard but she ignores continuing to survey the house. Walking around, she notices untamed plants on the windowsill and looking at them she frowns in disgust. Taking her hands, she starts at the first to the far left of the house, and opens each and every single alongside the wall finally reaching the other side. She looks then at Tabbi.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Is that better?

Unaware to Azriel, Tabbi doesn’t like the house and a sad expression on her face noticing how quiet the house it is. She is used to the bustling sounds of New York and this is very different to her. It’s almost eerie. Looking at her mom open the shades, Tabbi smiles a bit and responds not wanting to disappoint her.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(with an expression of uneasiness.)
Sure, mom. It brings in the light. It’s better.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(not noticing her daughter’s reaction she continues in a cheery voice)
There is still a lot to be done. A phone rings making both Tabbi and Azriel turn their heads towards the sound.

EXT: HALL TO THE LEFT IN HOUSE. EVENING.

Azriel, joined by Tabbi, walk in the direction of the noise, the sound getting louder and louder. Looking towards each other, they walk towards a desk, numbers with keys hanging on them on the wall. Camera zooms in towards Azriel’s hand as she places her hand on the red telephone and places to her ear.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Hello? Who is this?

MYSTERIOUS MAN
I’m Sir. Maverick Kelyme and I’m requesting that you allow me to stay at the Soothsaying Inn for a month at the most. I need to do a couple of things in the area.

The camera shows a dimly lit room and figure sitting in the corner by a lamp holding a telephone. His bangs covers his dark green eyes. A side-view of him shows a pensive smile upon his face. The camera then shifts back to Azriel and we see her leaning on the desk in a ruby red skirt and a green shirt.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
How did you hear about the place. Only people who know my family know if it, Maverick.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
I know of the place because one of my great great aunt’s ran the hotel for a year before she couldn’t anymore. Their daughter was killed there as well. You probably know nothing about the house but on the second floor, there is portraits of the past owners. Your picture may even be up there. I think it is a tradition. So can I stay?

Tabbi hears the conversation and a sick look appears on her face. Holding her stomach, she looks to her mother with an expression of disgust.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(in a concerned voice)
Can you wait for a moment, please.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
Sure. Can I inquire why.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
The look on my daughter’s face.

Placing the phone down so Sir. Maverick can’t hear, she looks at Tabbi.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
What’s wrong sweetie?

TABBI ISCARIOT
I just don’t feel any good. My stomach hurts. Don’t know why.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Let me finish here and I’ll find a room for you to rest in. You’ll be fine, I promise. Okay.

TABBI ISCARIOT
Sure.

Picking up the phone, she has forgotten the tale that Maverick has told her and she continues her conversation with Maverick the concerned expression never leaving her face.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Well, you seem to know a lot about the house and because of this, you can come and stay for the duration that you say. Come in a week for the house is not clean.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
(in a voice of gladness)
Thank-you. You have no idea good this will be me. Good-bye.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
No problem. See you then, yes?

The camera shows the figure again with a different expression. An expression of put insane madness, the crazy thoughts shifting in his head.

INT. STAIR CASE LEADING TO THE TOP FLOOR. EVENING.

Picking up Tabbi, Azriel still has the concerned expression and voice, fearing like any mother would. Taking her hand, she takes it to Tabbi’s head and rests it on her shoulder.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Just rest, sweetie.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(sighing)
Hmm. Okay.

Walking up the staircase, Azriel notices the open rooms and sees one with toys scattered on the floor around a child-size bed and walks into it.

She also notices the blank expressions of the 6 portraits that line below and names too little to read.

INT. TABBI’S ROOM IN HOUSE.

The room is painted pink, the floor littered with toys, and a shelf to the side. Azriel walks through the mess and places Tabbi upon the bed taking the light blanket and covering her up. Leaning forward she kisses her on the forehead leaving the key around her neck, her mind subconsciouly listening toh her mother.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Rest, sweetie.

Having fallen asleep in her mom’s arms, she has no response but sub-consciously she smiles at her.

INT. EVERYWHERE IN HOUSE. NEXT TWO DAYS.

Realizing that Tabbi is sick and she has her first boarder, Azriel starts to clean in the most frenzy of ways. As she cleans, she cries because she misses the sound of Tabbi’s laugh around her and the house has stayed the same in quiet. The only sound heard is that or the same cartoon channel over and over in Tabbi’s room. Azriel cleaned it the day soon after she got sick, placing the toys on the shelf.

The house is now clean and is filled with light and with the smell of lemon-lime wood cleaner. Sitting down, Azriel bites her fingernails. Sitting outside her daughter’s door, she cries again silently. Tabbi for the past two days has gotten sick. A doctor has come and he had no answer to give her. The house is still deathly silent and becomes too quiet for her at night, the only sound is the news running at night in her room.

INT. TABBI’S ROOM. EARLY MORNING:.

The door bell rings twice. Tabbi’s makes a whimper and Azriel’s runs to it taking a cold washcloth her. Placing it on her head, she looks at her daughter with concern.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
What’s wrong.

TABBI ISCARIOT
That noise. Just stop it.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Just relax. IT’s probably Maverick. Just rest. I’ll be back shortly.

INT. ENTRANCE HALL. MORNING.

Running down the stairs, Azriel opens the door and looks out of breath.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
What’s wrong?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
My daughter is still sick. Just follow me, okay.

Noticing the anxiety upon her face as Azriel turns, he smiles following Azriel.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
I just need you to fill out this information and I need to give you your room key. You'll be on the second floor on the left side of the staircase. Your room is also blessed with the only one with its private bathroom. My daughter and I are on the far right. If you have any questions, just come to me. You know where that is?

Azriel continues talking not waiting for a response her nerves not leaving her be. Tabbi is still sick upstairs.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
Yes. Whatever. You probably should know already since you knew about the portraits already. But whatever. Enjoy your stay.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
I will. Thanks again.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(not caring anymore she smiles and quickly answers)
Sure. Here take this.

Handing him the key, she takes his form and signs it at the bottom placing at the bottom of the top drawer of the desk and locks it. Leaving him, she runs back upstairs

INT. TABBI’S ROOM. AFTERNOON.

Azriel goes to see how Tabbi is. Tabbi lies in the same position and is just glancing at the top of the ceiling which has string hanging from it.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(walking in)
How are you sweetie?

TABBI ISCARIOT
I’m still don’t feel good. My stomach won’t let me rest in peace. I’m don’t think I’m going to make it mom.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(with a look of sadness mixed shock)
Don’t say that. You will be fine. I promise. I’ll be right back, I’m going to go check up on Maverick. Just stay here. I need you with me. You’re my angel.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(smiling)
Thanks, mom. Come back soon.

INT. SECOND FLOOR HALL. EVENING.

Climbing the staircase, Maverick has reached the top and looks to the left silently walking towards Tabbi’s room. Hearing the two talk, he smiles and turns to look at the portrait stopping at one. It is the portrait on the wall and is of Bethany Dark, the first who lived in the house and his great great aunt. Looking at her with a face of disgust, he turns towards his room. Unknown to him, Azriel has watched the whole scence wondering who or why he has the expression. Walking to the portrait, she realizes that she is the first person that owned the house. Elsewhere, another door bell has rung.

INT. ENTRANCE HALL. STILL EVENING, AROUND 7.

Azriel reaches for the door knob wondering who it is. Above her, Maverick has a curious expression on his face and looks down at the door as Azriel opens it. Pulling on it, the door opens and at the entrance is a elderly woman.

GRANNY
(holding a flower towards Azriel)
Place it next to the sick child and may I please rest here tonight and get a bite to eat.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(with a curious expression)
How did you know...

GRANNY
(smiling mysteriously)
Am I the only one here?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
No. Another is here by the name of Maverick Kelyme. Know him.

GRANNY
(frowns)
I know his tale. He shouldn’t be here.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Why? I’m confused.

GRANNY
Just ask him for dinner. You’ll find out soon enough and make sure you cook mashed potatoes okay. It’s my favorite as well as his.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Okay...

GRANNY
Now go. Can I see the sick one? Can you take me to her?

The Granny enters the hall and looks around.

GRANNY (CONT'D)
You’ve decorated it like your mother yet that doesn’t surprise me.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Did I? Wow. I need to get your key.

Granny smiles as to agree with her. Walking away with a confused and curious expression, Azriel walks off to the desk and grabs a key to the number closest to her room. The old woman knew things and she might help her help Tabbi as well. She was good to keep close. She still didn’t trust her but she could be right. They both walk up the staircase and see Maverick standing there, a shocked look on his face.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
(whispering to Granny)
He knows you as well, doesn’t he.

GRANNY
(whispers back)
He does indeed. That proves me right, you know.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiling, the doubts cleared)
Yeah....It does.

Looking back at Maverick, Azriel walks towards him.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
(smiling)
It seems I don’t need to introduce you to her and we will soon be having dinner. Potatoes covered with cheese on them, okay?

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
(his stomach growls and he knows that it was heard)
I am hungry. I just need to get spend sometime in my room. It has been a long day. Okay?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Sure.

Turning around they head into Tabbi’s room.

INT. TABBI’S ROOM IN HOUSE. EVENING AROUND 8 O’CLOCK.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiling)
Hey sweetie. How are you.

Turning her head, Tabbi notices the elderly woman with her mother and smiles. She sees comfort in her. Azriel notices this and smiles as well.

TABBI ISCARIOT
I’m better now that you are her.

GRANNY
Do you still have that key Azriel’s mother gave you?

TABBI ISCARIOT
Yes. Why?

GRANNY
(smiling)
It will protect you and here take this flower of protection against the magic. Just trust me.

TABBI ISCARIOT (takes the flower and holds it close her eyes closed)
Yes...Grandma. Protect. Protect.

GRANNY
(shocked she turns to Azriel)
This child knows a lot. More than you. How long has she been like this.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(confused)
For the past three days, I think. Can you explain.

GRANNY
(places a hand on Azriel’s shoulder)
Not here. Tabbi’s needs her peace. This will be all of our roughest night. Let’s go to the kitchen. Sure.

INT. KITCHEN IN THE BACK OF THE FIRST FLOOR. 8:30.

Reaching the kitchen, Azriel takes a pot and fills it up with room temperature water. Turning, she places it on the stove and raises on the stove with medium fire. Taking the bag of potatoes she places it in between herself and the Granny and hands her a potato peeler. As the Granny describes, the story the camera shows weird flashbacks.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Can you help me the potatoes. It will seem less suspicious to Maverick if he comes and if he smells the potatoes he might come.

GRANNY
He won’t but I can help you anyway. I did come for some dinner, remember.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
I do but that isn’t the only reason. You came here to warn me about something, right.

GRANNY
No. Just to tell you a story. You can figure it out for yourself. Tabbi trusts you.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiling to herself)
I know. So what is this tale, granny?

GRANNY
(has a faraway expression)
It started long, long ago and the story belongs in your family, to you ancestors, actually. This house has always served some purpose and most recently it served the purpose of a hotel yet business was failing and if that ever came, shame would come. The Iscariots are known for not wanting that shit upon their name.

Flashback shows scenes of a woman walking back and forth cuts all up and down her arms and tears streaming down her face are shown. She looks fimilar to the viewer’s eye.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
That sounds like my mom. Something lower than you is a disgrace and brings disgust.

GRANNY
Right. Well, the business failing is the worst so your great great aunt needed some way to rescue the place and the only thing one could resort to was the black magic the crazy whites has brought with them here, the roots of magic always strong in Louisiana.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Okay. Go on.

GRANNY
The most oldest and feared spell is that of how to change your luck because it requires one of the worst things ever known. Also, because of your choice, the spell would place a curse if it worked it will kill the next son if he doesn’t kill two members of his family but not of blood and child or the person who gave her the spell.

Flashback shows a scence depicting the woman shown before talking to an elderly black woman, the black woman having an expression of disgust. They are deep in conversation in an old hut.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Wait. What? Why would she choose such a thing? What was the sacrifice and would you want that to happened to your future generation? Your life?

GRANNY
She didn’t care about him. It was more about honor. It isn’t your life but your quite close. A sacrifce.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
How is that worse. What could be the sacrifice.

GRANNY
(smiling grimly)
The sacrifice has to be a blood relative. Nothing else would work. Now, she had only thing to offer up: the life of her daughter.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(gasps)
What? She chose to do that upon her.

GRANNY
Yes so on the night of her daughter’s 6th birthday, she placed the spell upon her bed and using her a string, she tied a string to the fan above Tabbi’s bed.

Flashback shows woman standing on her chair her hands covered with black ash and dirt. She reaches up and ties a string to a fan.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(gasps)
Oh no.

GRANNY
Yes. First, she uses a blindfold to cover her child’s eyes. Taking her hands to the child’s neck, she has made the string long enough that she can tie it around her without lifting her. Closing her own eyes, she pulls the string and in two jerks, the child is dead.

Flashback shows the woman standing behind the hanged body of her daughter wearing a simple white gown as it sways silently back and forth, back and forth. Her face is finally shown and it is the face of the portrait from earlier.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(speechless)
... It was...that woman...the first portrait, right.

GRANNY
Yeah. Picture yourself killing Tabbi.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
I could never do that. Take my life first not hers. Ever.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
Wait, You said that my great great aunt that was the killer? Who is she in relation to Maverick and even to you. Why help me?

GRANNY
Her name is Bethany Dark. I know you’ve seen the portrait of her. She’s your mother’s grandmother mom which makes you her descendant.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
But Maverick said that he was related to her as well. How?

GRANNY
Your remember the boy that would have to suffer. Maverick’s him. I’m guessing Tabbi is his first kill.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
What? Why me?

GRANNY
Your his stepsister. Your mom married twice. She never told you, did she?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
No. But you still haven’t answered my other question. Why help me?

GRANNY
Remember how I said that the man, Maverick, would also have to kill a descendant of the woman who gave her as well.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
I do. Wait, really? Are you that descendant.

GRANNY
No. My daughter who he had just married was the one.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Wow.

The potatoes lay in the pot now boiled and done, the cheese placed filling the house with a delicious scent. Looking at the granny, Azriel looks at her with deep contemplation.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
(sighing)
I’m going to make sure that it is him and get something.

GRANNY
Something.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
A gift from Dante.

GRANNY
Okay. Just be careful, okay.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Don’t worry. I will.

INT. MAVERICK’S ROOM. DURING TABBI’S AND AZRIEL CONVERSATION.

The blue room is lit with one light on the ceiling. Inside, Maverick is dressed in black, a shirt with sleeves up to his elbows with cuts running down his forearm and a black pair of tight pants. His paces back and forth going from one end to the room to the other barefoot muttering to himself.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
(in a scared rushed voice)
That fucking bitch is telling that woman everything. I have to do this now. I want to end it and save my soul. I hate that woman. Damn you Bethany. This fucking is still of piece of shit and business still fucking sucks. What am I going to do?

By the wall he is standing, a thumping of heart beat starts to go. Maverick looks at the wall and jumps back and gasps, his voice open no scream coming out.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME (CONT'D)
(in a scared voice)
What is that? What is that? Oh my.

Running into the bathroom, Maverick takes a bloodied knife from his pocket and cuts his arm again, blood being drawn out and stands there, the black makeup from his eyelashes running down his face. Taking the door knob, he slams the bathroom door leaving it unlocked.

INT. NEXT TO MAVERICK’S ROOM. AROUND 8.

Walking up the door of Maverick’s room, in the corner of her eye she notices the scratched up portrait of Bethany covered in what looks like red paint. Shaking her hand, Azriel quietly opens the door of the room and walks in looking around hearing the cries of Maverick.

Ignoring them, she walks toward his bed and looks down and sees one word at the top of piece of paper in a book.

“Dante”.

Picking it up, she tears up realizing what is inside. Opening, her fears are confirmed: a picture of his warm gentle face looks at her. Taking it, she places in her shirt on top of her heart. Looking back down, she notices another picture. It’s Tabbi’s face looking back at her. Looking to the bathroom door, she places a hand on the gun that she has in her hand and opens the door.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(yelling in a loud voice tears streaming down her face)
MAVERICK! YOU KILLED HIM! YOU KILLED HIM! I KNOW WHY BUT WHY HIM!! WHY HIM!

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
(looks and with an expression of death on his face smiles)
He’s was the only one I knew that could save my life.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
But...him? And then Tabbi. She was the age of the daughter of Bethany. Are we going back to the same cycle?

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
I’m just saving my life. Sorry. I did it and I’m not ashamed. I want to life my life and then once she is dead then I can rest, the quota of that stupid and silly bitch filled, the spell ended.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME (CONT'D)
(yelling to no one and holding up the knife)
I AM THE KILLER OF DANTE ISCARIOT. I DID IT WITH THIS KNIFE. I CHOPPED THAT S.O.B WITH THIS KNIFE INTO 9 PIECES AND LEFT THEM AROUND FOR NO ONE TO EVER TO FIND. AND KNOW I’M GOING TO KILL HiS BITCH AND HANG THAT LITTLE WENCH!

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(suprised and anger)
WHAT DID YOU SAY? SO YOU ARE HIS KILLER.

Through anger, Azriel takes the gun with Dante’s initials on it and shoots three shots blindly hoping it will hit as Maverick throws the knife. The bullet, unknown to Maverick, shoots him in the side and right below the heart the pain unnoticeable at first. The other whizzing pas his ear. His knife scapes the tattoo on Azriel’s left shoulder, the name of DANTE ripped.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT (CONT'D)
(yelling)
OWWWWWWWWWW. You idiot.

SIR MAVERICK KELYME
Haha. No more reminder of your idiot and I’m still alive....

Unable to complete his words, Maverick falls backwards, his soul bound to hell and his body cold. He is dead.

INT. SECOND FLOOR HALL.

Stumbling outside the door, Azriel grabs onto her left shoulder, blood gushing out covering her right hand with blood. She exits his room not caring about the body grabbing the black book as she exits, the blood trailing down her left arm. Using the book, she covers her shoulder again. Her gun lays on the floor, the knife in the wall. Standing outside the room is Granny who is standing next to Tabbi.

TABBI ISCARIOT
(in shock of how her mom looks)
Mom!! What happened to you?? Are you alright.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(looking towards Tabbi)
Yes. Seeing you standing there makes me happy. I’m fine that you are safe.

GRANNY
(walking towards Azriel with bandage)
Here, let’s go to your room.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Sure.

INT. AZRIEL’S ROOM. MIDNIGHT.

All three sit on the bed with Azriel in the middle. Taking Azriel’s arm, the Granny bandages up Azriel’s left arm as Tabbi rest upon her lap. Azriel explains the story as she flips through the pages of the black book and Granny sighing from relief that the task is done.

GRANNY
(smiling)
I can go now in peace. Thankx.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(smiling back)
You saved us and I had to do it to complete revenge for Dante. Before you go to wherever, can you help me with one task.

GRANNY
Sure. What?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
I have a hammer downstairs in the kitchen as well as a knife. Can you get it?

GRANNY
Why?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
The book that I was flipping through said that Maverick chopped up the arm of Dane into 3 pieces and his shoulder is under my bed. I just want to see it. And I know what the key around her neck is for now.

GRANNY
What?

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
To protect the descendant. Bethany cared and realized what she had done. The last thing she did was bless the key with her life. It is the master key and was the only thing found in Bethany’s grave, her body later found to shreds somewhere because of that spell.

GRANNY
So she did care. Amazing.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
Yeah and know it is finally over.

INT. AZRIEL’S ROOM. MIDNIGHT.

The boards have been ripped apart and the granny has left disappearing from Tabbi and Azriel forever not giving a location. The last task is done and the last thing the camera sees is flashes from the house, the first being the dead body of Maverick, the next is police coming, the third is Tabbi’s room, and the last is Azriel’s room.

On her bed, Tabbi, still wearing the key around her neck, sleeps while next to her on the floor sits Azriel. She sits there cradling Dante’s arm, the same tattoo shown but having her name. Kissing it, she whispers silently to herself the last words heard.

AZRIEL ISCARIOT
(tears flow down her cheek)
Dante. I finally understand your death and I’ve come to peace with it finding revenge. You were right with us coming here and now me and Tabbi will find peace in Paris with Liam. Bye.

FADE OUT TO A BLACK SCREEN.

Credits roll.

END.
